The Diving Bell & the Butterfly

Please, please, please read The Diving Bell and the Butterfly at your earliest convenience, for it will make you "fall back in love with life" -- Read it in in French if you can, or in English & if you really, really don't have the time to read, watch the movie.

Now that I've completed both, I'll take my after-thoughts to bed, and ponder upon the endlessss possibilities out there. Meanwhile, I wish you a blissfully pleasant night - a bientot!

La Vie en Rose
First, play this song:

..& then, read the rest of the post.

With Edit Piaf's Lafoule playing in the background, I woke up with eyes so eager to brush every small little road of every district in the city of inspiration. Pink would be the color of my dress, and a pair of repetto flats to match, & an oversized Canon camera strapped to my shoulder would give away the tourist flag -- but who cares? It's spring, Paris is packed with tourists anyway

Our first Welcome to Paris was paid to us by a little bird that decided to join us for breakfast and opted for the freshly baked french baguette and croissants.. it then decided to hop on top of Naima's head lol, a classic! I took a photo of this and soon will share it in an album with many others.

The fact that all stores were closed yesterday for bank holiday left no room for a pilgrimage to the Hermes FS.H boutique, instead, we walked through Montmartre (& picked up a truly beautiful water color painting that would hang in the bathroom sometime when the house is ready), we then headed to tour eiffel (how could one resist the view of blossoms with tour eiffel as a backdrop? je ne sais pas -- I couldn't)..

On our way to Victor Hugo to take the metro, my eyes caught a book store selling a small collection of books, I couldn't resist that either so I went in to have a look -all in french, needless to say- I was easily captured by the photos, and titles like "Mon petit mari" lol, before I knew it, I was holding a tower of books in my arms (including Mon Petit Mari, of course) and was headed to the cashier when a gentleman shopping in the store stretched a Marlboro Ad smile and said something quick to me in french, he spoke so fast that I couldn't understand anything but his sheepish smile;

- "Je ne parle pas bien français" I said, and added "un petit peu"
- "Don't buy all the books in the store, leave some for others -- the rest of us" he replied, in immaculate English.

That was when I noticed the stack I was holding, & I was slightly concerned how would I manage to take them back home with all the passenger baggage weight-quotas the airlines are imposing. Perhaps it would be best to have them shipped in a box instead, I don't know.

Yves, Gwenealle and I watched Coco avant Chanel & it was beeeeeautiiiiiful, my favorite parts were the horse scenes, the black one was so gorgeous that I released a gasp when that scene was played. I wonder why hadn't they mentioned anything about how horses were introduced in her life, there was no mention of Saumur (where she was born) and the Ecuyers of Le Cadre Noir and their influence on her designs which I think is one of the most fascinating things about her life as a fashion icon. Nevertheless, Audrey Toutou? super cute, and she played the role well -- so glad she was picked for this role.

To celebrate the movie, I opted to go for a classic chanel look, with a contemporary flare of color for the skirt <3

More to come later x

The Fabulous Movie

Sex & The City the movie is out, & despite the fact that I watched it twice during my travels this summer, I'm downloading it off of iTunes as I type this now ;p I can't wait till the girls are back from their Eid travels to have them over at my place for a movie night <3 but until then, I watch it over & over again everynight before I go to sleep siiiiiiiigh *faints*

Amidst the excitement, I forgot to wish you all fabulous people a great Eid, I hope you had fun =) mine was a festive social event, especially the first couple of days, I managed to spend time with distant family that I haven't had the time to see for a while, but the highlight really was a visit from my 3rd grade friend and her sister <3 & seeing people I've been promising to see for a very long time, I'm glad I did =)

On the pilates home studio front, things are progressing well, I have teamed up with my maid to layout whatever I could manage to grasp of tree and flower pots, but still in desperate need for our uber undiscovered-talent gardener in our house in AlAin, I'd do anything to borrow him for a couple of days, but my mum wouldn't let me do that because he was 'other priorities' she says. I presume things that involve 1) watering flowers, & 2) watering more flowers. Dimmit, I'm gonna have to try harder, ..or just learn gardening on my own. Did I mention that my previous gardening attempt went down the drain? Well, yes, they died. All of them +_+

Okay, ..maybe I'll just have to grovel & have mum send that one gardener to beautify my patio, & until then, I'll continue spreading my mat on the tiled empty surface and picturing an imaginary pot-garden surrounding me ;p

With regards to the equipment, I decided to opt for a Combo chair as opposed to the traditional Wunda chair, & to make the devices a bit less masculine and more feminine I thought I'd choose a custom color for the leather and rubber upholstery, a shade of dusty pink *kiss kiss* or a deep tone of purple, or both? Any votes?

& before I go, please watch this hilarious video lol

System Restore

So, obviously, I took my time getting back to my "system" of sleep. When my alarm went off this morning at 9:00, all I wanted to do is stretch my arm out the window effortlessly & throw my blackberry out and never see it again. It took an hour & 25 minutes of 10-minute snoozing & jumping out of my skin everytime the alarm went off again before I could drag my feet out of bed: The motive? Sheer fear of tomorrow.

You see, tomorrow I go back to work after a relatively long vacation, most of which was spent in Los Angeles and New York, which was great, except for the fact that I never got back in tune with my normal Abu Dhabi sleeping hours. I've morphed into this vampire wannabe that goes to sleep at 5:00 AM & wakes u at 4:00 PM really! -- I never thought I'd become one of those who sleep their days away, but just when you least expect them, things happen.

Amongst the things that I least expected was my impression of the Big Apple. To tell you the truth, New York qualifies for the low-light of my entire vacation which was otherwise fabulous. I landed in NY expecting the english version of Tokyo: über modern, fast paced, & well.. crowded. It was all that alright, but in addition, New York was dirty -Bangkok-dirty-, smelly, & very very different from our favorite scenes on SATC.

Having said that, NY did have a highlight or two. The first was spending a day with a great friend who knew NY better than I did. The two of us walked for hours through Fifth, Madison, & ended up somewhere across the bridge from Brooklyin. Took a cycle carriage through Central Park, & came upon some gorgeous pieces that I could have never otherwise found on my own, which would become my favorite NY purchase: a cream colored immaculate tulle dress infused with pearls. So delicate that it would pass for a wedding dress, I dunno where I'll wear it to be honest, but the minute I tried it on, I knew I had to have it <3

Overall, shopping in NY was fab. I was able to custom-make polo shirts pour les pooches, & stock up on Tom Ford's Noir de Noir, Oud Wood, & my favorite amongst the three Tuscan Leather that's been rumored to smell like the white stuff. Quite frankly, I dunno if that suggestion holds merit, but I know that this guy here creates magic everywhere he goes.

I also dunno if it's a mere coincidence that my favorite character from Lipstick Jungle happens to share the same last name. Victory Ford, a fashion designer character on the show got me startled for oversized pearl earrings, I want! The closest I got to these were a light gray pair I picked up at Harvey Nicholes when I was in London. Fabulous with smoky eyes -which for some reason I'm only in the mood for when I'm out of town.

Lipstick Jungle was slowly growing to become a sane addiction {whereas SATC was the insane kind} especially considering the fact that I watched the movie THREE times during my vacation. Would love to get my hands on a copy of Cashmere Mafia which I haven't been able to find on iTunes, & my mininova torrents failed to download .. Until I do, I'll consume myself in my current addictions:

+ Foreign movies: La Science des rêves, Happy-go-Lucky
+ Pink lemonade <3
+ Sprinkles cupcakes <3 <3
+ Styling Sultan's forelock
+ The pink key =)
